The return of the #fatrunner

For various reasons year 2019 has not been so aerobic for me in comparison to 2018. Last year I ran two marathons [Paris in April and Athens in November] and I did the cycling part in an IRONMAN (Tallinn in August) relay — far too much for a person who’s been fighting obesity most of his life.

Anyhow, while it is what it is, I thought it was about time to start running again. And I did it. Started training early in September ( not very actively to be honest) and last Saturday October 19th I managed to successfully finish the 8th Thessaloniki Night Half Marathon, being part of the awesome #StarttechRunners team, at the time of 2:33’, which actually is my second best half marathon time ever.

Running a half marathon at the pace of 7’:11"/km doesn’t exactly make you dreaming of running at the next Olympics, it’s a decent performance though. To put it simple, it’s just running and no walking at all (and actually not-too-slow running).

What’s next? Well, I’m not really in for another marathon, not even another half marathon to be honest. I’ll try to train decently for a month or two and hopefully, sometime by the end of 2019 or beginning of 2020 to manage to run a 10k race at a time below 60’.

So far, I’ve managed to run a 5k below 30' (28’:24" to be precise) in April 2018. Now it’s time to focus on a sub-hour 10k. If I ever manage to do that, I’ll go for a sub-2-hours half marathon and, after that, my dream will be a sub-4-hours marathon.

Will I ever make it? Who knows. I’ll give it a try but I’ll definitely not push it too much. The point is to enjoy the whole running thing, not to become compulsive.

At the end of the day, the journey is the destination, let’s make sure it’s an enjoyable one!
