I’m going to go straight to the point: We live in the 21st century. In this stage of humanity’s evolution, it’s perfectly fine to have sex with someone just for the fan of it, just for the sake of pleasure. By the way, this statement has been standing true throughout the millennia. It is just that, in the old times, the socially acceptable norm was dictating hypocrisy — people were not accepting it publicly, but they’ve always had sex just for pleasure — Thank God!
However, accidents happen. They have always been happening and they will always do. The result of an accident while having sex oftentimes is no other than an unwanted pregnancy.
What does this mean?
In the old times it used to be very difficult to terminate a pregnancy, at least with a reasonably calculated risk. So, it was anything than rare for unwanted babies to be born. This unbelievable bad luck has been fueling misery, unhappiness and hatred for centuries. It has often made families a completely toxic environment to live in. One would not exaggerate if they said that those ‘unwanted generations’ have destroyed the lives of numerous human beings, first and foremost of these very individuals who came to live a toxic family considering them as ‘results of an accident’.
Since the middle of the 20th century or so, science has made several leaps forward. One of those leaps has been the widely available option to terminate a pregnancy if the respective woman feels that the conditions are not right to assume the responsibility of giving birth and growing a new human being. I claim that this very possibility of birth- and family-planning has played an instrumental role in what we recognize as ‘progress’ in our societies.
Now, for a number of mysterious reasons related to domestic micro-politics and neoconservative paranoia, the Supreme Court of the United States of America published a ruling which terminated the constitutional protection of the right to a safe abortion for each and every American woman.
They want to create a new ‘convicted generation’. Convicted to a life of misery and unhappiness, because of the way they were brought to life: Through enforcement.
I do believe that such a decision is based on a deep-rooted belief which more-or-less claims that women do not have right to sexual pleasure, at least not in the sense and the extend that men do. Outrageous as it may sound, it gets as simple as that. The role of women is to give birth to children and their sexual activity is ‘allowed’ only for serving that role; on the contrary men are not only allowed but largely obliged to have a very active sexual life for meeting the socially acceptable masculinity standards.
Moreover, I don’t even find it necessary to seriously comment on the so-called “pro-life” lobby, which basically dictated the recent ruling. Their Orwellian name speaks for themselves. It is nothing more than a fascist movement which apparently explored the apparent troubles of a large part of the American society aiming to advance an ultra-conservative agenda. Their objective goes way beyond anti-abortion and anti-gun-control. Those who find these movements basically aim to turning the US to an anti-democratic State.
I need to address, however, the usually silent majority who stands in the middle. You, people, need to understand what is this about. It’s not about someone else; it’s about your daughters and sisters. Do they have the right to enjoy their lives? Can they have sex just for the sake of pleasure, as often and with anyone they may want to? I believe they can. I believe it is their unquestionable right.
You see, at the end it gets as simple as that: One cannot at the same time say that a woman is entitled to the right of sexual pleasure and not being entitled to the right of a safe abortion. Those two events cannot be true together.
Be brave then to say it loud. We live in 2022. Our sisters and daughters are equal human beings to everyone else. They have the right to enjoy their lives including having sex with anyone they may want. And, in a civilized society of our era, medical assistance of unwanted pregnancy termination should be available without any further questions.
No one has the right to control our bodies. And this includes the Supreme Court of the United States of America.
