Is the American Empire in trouble?
One cannot refrain from commenting on article by Ruchir Sharma. Regardless of agreeing with the author or not, he manages to articulate his opinion very well. I tend to believe that other thinkers, like Ray Dalio for example, have been making similar arguments and predictions.
My view is the following:
- While it is clear that the United States have been on a sloppy road for a long time already (printing money and increasing public spending),
- - Their geopolitical position is so strong that makes it unlikely to be challenged in the short term;
- - History tells us that the strongest power in each era, largely controls the reserve currency, and, this way, the world’s economy.
On the other hand I wish that the new Administration in the US will put economic dynamism and efficiency in the top of their agenda. Being addicted to sovereign debt rarely makes a good policy for the future.
Still, we live in very interesting times and indeed almost anything is possible.
As an entrepreneur I want to say that the really good ones of us are those manage to create value across different economic cycles.
If you’re overdepended on investors’ money, you may find yourself in an unwanted situation.
But if you create real products for real people and real businesses at reasonable prices, chances are that you’ll successfully navigate through the storms you may come across.
