For Maria Vlachou
In the darkest moments of the Greek crisis, when everyone around looked desperate and hopeless, there was a single source of hope, optimism and positive energy where we could look at and get the push necessary to move on: This outstanding agribusiness entrepreneur from Corinth, the founder of Feréikos, Maria Vlachou.
If our generation, in Greece & in Europe, could get their best face, that would be Maria’s. Smart, energized, fair, dynamic, optimistic, creative. A true citizen of the world, a modern European. Speaking nine languages was the least of her merits. Inspiring for everyone around her, offering an outstanding example of commitment and integrity. A true role model in entrepreneurship and civic engagement.
Maria passed away earlier today in Athens at the age of 39. Her family has lost a beloved daughter and many of us have lost a great friend; Also Greece and Europe have lost an inspiring entrepreneur. Besides the Co-Founder and CEO at Feréikos, Maria has also been the co-founder of the Hellenic Startup Association, an Endeavor Entrepreneur and a member of the EYL40 community.
My mind can’t process this fact and my heart is broken. Maria’s life was so unfairly short, yet so incredibly great. She positively influenced so many people in our small country and beyond; she’ll be always remembered.
Sharing my most sincere condolences to her loved ones, I’m not able to say good bye to Maria; I just can’t. I can only share the promise that we shall keep doing our best for promoting entrepreneurship, for creating a better society, with prosperity and justice for all, following the way she has been leading.
